A Brief Introduction About Khwaja Nayabe Rasool:

Sarkar-Ammajan-1 - RahmatabadHistorically Sarkar Nayabe Rasool is referred to as Hazrat Haji Syed Khwaja Rahmatullah (RA) Nayabe Rasool and is counted among the Hussaini Sadaat's (Descendants of the great Hazrat Syedna Imam Hussain Razi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu). His father Hazrat Khwaja-E-Alam Nakshband Alaihirrahmah had migrated to India from Tauran (northen parts of Afghanistan and present day Uzbekistan etc.). Historically relevant cities of this part of the world are Samarqand and Bukhara where the descendants of many Islamic greats had settled down after Halaku Khan's massacre of Baghdad in 1257 AD. Farghana, the native town of the founder of the Mughal empire Mohammed Zaheeruddin Babar (Death 1430 AD) also falls in this part of the world. During the period of the Mughal emperor Jalaluddin Mohammed Akbar many families from Tauran came to India and settled down here. Khaja Abid Khaleej Khan was one among them whose grandson Mir Qamruddin Ali Khan Asif Jah (Awwal) was founder of the Asif Jah empire.

A breif description about Khwaja Rahmatullah can also be found in Tazkira-E-Auliya-E-Dakan Mualiif on page 393 (Author - Abdul Jabbar Khan Malkapuri) where it is mentioned that Khwaja Rahmatullah's father upon his arrival from Tauran, stayed for a brief while with the Asif Jah (Awwal) and thereafter was appointed as the Qateeb at the Jamia Masjid at Belgaum (Karnataka). Hazrat Khwaja Alam married in Belgaum which was also the birth place of Khwaja Rahmatullah. His (Khwaja Rahmatullah's) date of expiry has been given as 26 Rabbi Ul Awwal 1195 Hijri which translates to 1781 AD in Georgian Calender. His age has been given as 90 Hijri years and thus his year of birth can be counted back to 1105 Hijri (1694 AD).

At the time of Hazrat Aurangazeb's death in 1707 AD Khwaja Rahmatullah's age was around 13 years. At the time of the Battle of Palasy (1757 AD) where Siraj Ud Dawla was defeated by the British Khwaja Rahmatullah's age was 63 years.

Hazrat Khwaja Rahmatullah lost his mother at an very early age after which his father Hazrat Khwaja Alam married for the second time. Khwaja Rahmatullah took permission from his father and went to stay with his maternal aunt at Kurnool where he recieved his formal education and also took employment in the royal stable. Meanwhile he also visited Bijapur and took Baith from Hazrat Alvi Buroom (RA.). Later he performed Hajj (1151 Hijri/1737 AD) and also took Baith from Hazrat Ashraf Makki (RA) under the Nakshbandi tradition in Makkah Muazzamah from where he proceeded to Madina Shareef. After returning from Hajj Khwaja Rahmatullah stayed for a brief while at Kurnool and later went to Nandyal where he got married. He was blessed with a girl child but unfortunately after a while he lost both his wife and daughter due to different reasons.

From Nandyal Khwaja Rahmatullah came to Udgir Hill Fort and in 1748 AD bought some land and settled in Ana Samandar (Anuma Samudram) which later came to be known as Rahmatabad Shareef (named after Khwaja Rahmatullah himself).

Hazrat Syeda Habeebunnisa (RA) was the second wife of Khwaja Rahmatullah and is popularly known as Ammajan by Hindus and Muslims alike. She was the daughter of the Nawab of Kurnool.

In 1748 AD Khwaja Rahmatullah constructed a make shift mosque in Rahmatabad and named it Madina Masjid. Many people came forward to convert it into a permament structure but Khwaja Rahmatullah refused any help and later in 1762 AD he single handedly converted the makeshift structure into a grand one. There is an inscription on the forehead of the mosque which reads "This Stone Has Been Brought From Madina Munawwarah" but it is not certain whether Khwaja Rahmatullah had brought the stone himself or had got it through someone else.

Khwaja Rahmatullah did not had any children through his second wife. His second wife Hazrat syeda Habeebunnisa had constructed a grand dome atop the mazar of Khwaja Rahmatullah after his expiry. She herself was laid to rest next to the Mazar of Khwaja Rahmatullah inside the same dome after her expiry. Though the exact year of her expiry is not known, her Sandal is celeberated on the 7th of Rabbi Ul Awwal every year

Khwaja Rahmatullah did not name anyone as his successor. After his death his wife Hazrat Syeda Habeebunnisa asked Hazrat Shah Rafiuddin Khandari (RA) to take over from where Khwaja Sahab had left but he expressed his unability to do so. Left with no other option Hazrat Syeda Habeebunnisa called her nephew Hazrat Ghulam Nakshband (RA), gave him all the necessary education and appointed him as the seccessor of Khwaja Rahmatullah.

According to the book 'Bahr-E-Rahmat' at the age of 90, Khwaja Rahmatullah fell seriously ill and expired on Friday 26 Rabbi Ul Awwal 1195 Hijri (22nd March 1781 AD) after Maghrib at Udgir. At the time of performong Ghusl his heart was still in a state of Zikr which was witnessed by everyone present there. His body was then brought to Rahmatabad and was laid to rest in the courtyard of the mosque that he had built. Today, a grand dome adorns the Mazar-E-Aqdas of Hazrat Khwaja Rahmatullah Nayabe Rasool and Ammajan and is frequented by thousands of pilgrims irrespective of caste, creed, religion and status.

Important Khalifas Of Hazrat Khwaja Rahmatullah (RA) Nayabe Rasool:

Hazrat Syed Murtuza Quadri (Rahmatullah Alaih) - (Adoni, Andhra Pradesh):

Hz Syed Murtuza Quadri - AdoniThough Khwaja Rahmatullah had thousands of followers, there were only a select few who had the luxury of his proximity. Among them also, very few were fortunate enough to have been awarded Khilafat by Khwaja Rahmatullah. Among such persons the very first name happens to be that of Hazrat Syed Murtuza Quadri (RA) who was considered as a Sufi-E-Kamil purely on the basis of his relentless worhip and practice of Zikr-O-Shugl. To be precise, he was the apple of Khwaja Rahmatullah's eyes. Due to continous Zikr and Muraqiba his head was permanenetly tilted to one side of his shouldres.

Hazrat Murtuza Quadri was a native of Adoni (Kurnool Distirct, Andhra Pradesh). Whenever he would visit his Peer-O-Murshid Hazrat Khwaja Rahmatullah Nayabe Rasool the other disciples of Khwaja Nayabe Rasool would make elabotare arrangements for his welcome and escort him to Khwaja Rahmatullah's place who himself would be anxiously waiting to meet his favourite disciple. Hazrat Syed Murtuza Quadri had deep love and respect for his peer under whose guidance he reached great heights in the fields of Tasawwuf and Sulook.

Hazrat Syed Murtuza Quadri expired (Visaal) on the 20th day of the Islanic month of Jamadil Awwal in 1200 Hijri and has been laid to rest in his native town of Adoni.

Hazrat Shah Rafiuddin Khandari (Rahmatullah Alaih) - (Khandar/Aurangabad):

Hz Syed Shah Rafiuddin Khandari - KhandarUndoubtedly the most important among all the Khalifas of Hazrat Khwaja Rahmatullah Nayabe Rasool has to be Hazrat Shah Rafiuddin Khandari (RA) who attained a great position in Silsila-E-Rahmatiya. He was the true Janasheen of Khwaja Rahmatullah.

Though hitorically he is referred to as Ghulam Rifaai, more often than not he was called as Rafiuddin (his laqab/title). His father's name was Shamsuddin Khandar. Hazrat Shah Rafiuddin was born on 19th Jamadis Sani in 1164 Hijri in Khandar (part of then Hyderabad province). Hzarat Shamshuddin had wished for a son at the mosque of Hazrat Maqdoom Haji Syed (RA) (A descendant of Hz Syed Ahmed Kabiir Rifaai (RA)). One day Hazrat Baba Maqdoom appeared in Hazrat Shamshuddin's dream and made the prediction of a male child who would grow up to become a true Islamic great. Thus Hazrat Shah Rafiuddin was born and on the advice of Hazrat Maqdoom was named Ghulam Rifaai.

Hazrat Shah Rafiuddin recieved his early education under the supervision of his father, later under the watchful eye of Maulana Syed Qamaruddin Hussaini he learnt Hdis, Fiqh, Tafseer and other Ulooms. Thereafter he came to the Khankhwa of Hzarat Khwaja Rahmatullah Nayabe Rasool and became his follower. After one year of learning he was awarded Khirkha-E-Khilafat under Quadriya, Nakshbandiya and Rifaaiya traditions by Khwaja Rahmatullah.

Hazrah ShahRafiuddin then went for Hajj and upon his return he opened a khankhwa at Khandar. He expired on the 16th of Rajjab Ul Murajjab in 1241 Hijri and was laid to rest in his own house where Nawab Shamshul Amra later constructed a grand dome(Gumbaz).

Hazrat Shah Rafiuddin Khandari was an able writer with keen interest in poetry. Apart from being a great Islamic scholar he also had mastery over various other subjects and works. His literary works are still safe in the form of letters and books. the famous among them being:

Samratul Makki, Unfaas Aashiqeen, Risala Chishtiya, Sulook Nakshbandiya, Anwar-Ul-Khandar and Tazkira Naubahar.

Hazrat Shah Waliullah (Rahmatullah Alaih) - (Azeemabad/Patna):

It is difficult to define Hazrat Shah Waliullah's greatness in words. His knowledge in the Islamic fileds of Tasawwuf and Sulook were matchless. He spent a major portion of his life in the company of Khwaja Rahmatullah to finetune his Islamic knowledge. Such was his penchant for knowledge on Islamic Ulooms that he spent his entier life in this quest. He was instrumental in spreding Khwaja Rahmatullah's Ilm of Islam to distant places. He originally hailed from Azeemebad, Patna.

Hazrat Syed Shah Abul Hasan Kharbi (Rahmatullah Alaih) - (Bijapur/Nellore):

Among the Khalifas of Khwaja Rahmatullah Nayabe Rasool, the name of Maulana Ruknuddin Mohammed Al Maroof Syed Shah Abul Hasan Kharbi (RA) Qutb-E-Zaman holds special importance. He is considered to be the Ghazi (champion) in the Islamic fields of Sulook and Ma'arifat. He was the native of Bijapur (Karnataka) and was born on 14th Shabaan 1118 Hijri. His father took him along with him and settled in Nellore (Andhra Pradesh) where he recieved his formal education on Islamic subjects. He was one of the most important Disciples of Khwaja Rahmatullah Nayabe Rasool.

The contributions of Hazrat Syed Shah Abul Hasan Kharbi (RA) in spreading the message and teachings of Hazrat Khwaja Rahmatullah are seconded by none. He had great mastery over many Islamic subjects. Apart from Arabic and Farsi he had also mastered other local languages. To spread the knowledge of various Islamic Ulooms Hazrat Abul Hasan Kharbi opened a Khankhwa (Islamic Seminary) at Nellore which came to be known as Hazrat Makan (Jamia Lateefiya Arabiya, Nellore).

Hazrat Abul Hasan Kharbi was a Buzurg of many qualities and was awarded with Baith and Khilafat from Khwaja Rahmatullah Nayabe Rasool. He was a great Islamic scholar who strictly followed the Islamic way of life. His famous literary works include the Bida'at Nama, Chakki Nama, Meraj Nama and Hidayat Nama. He expired on the 20th of Ramzan-Ul-Mubarak 1182 Hijri at the age of 66 and was laid to rest at his Khankhwa Hazrat Makan at Nellore.

Hazrat Mohammed Sarwar (Rahmatullah Alaih) - (Nellore, Andhra Pradesh):

Among the favourite Khalifas of Khwaja Rahmatullah the name of Hazrat Mohammed Sarwar deserves special mention. He was a Buzurg of very high credentials. His contribution to the growth and development of Silsila-E-Rahmatiya are innumerous. He had reached such levels of spiritual enlightenment that whatever he used to say would invariably come true. He would never budge from the instructions and teachings of his peer Hazrat Khwaja Rahmatullah. The visitors at Hazrat Srawar's place included not only Sufiis and the needy but also the rich and the royals would come to him with their heads bowed in respect.

Khwaja Rahmatullah always took special care in teaching Hazrat Sarwar who would eagerly grab everything coming his way through his peer and obediently follow him. Hazrat Mohammed Sarwar expired and has been laid to rest in Nellore.

Hazrat Syed Shah Sibghatullah (Rahmatullah Alaih) - (Nellore, Andhra Pradesh):

Hazrat Syed Sibghatullah is one among the specially taught and trained disciples and Khalifas of Hazrat Khwaja Rahmatullah. Poularly known as Baba Sahab his importance can be understood from the fact that Khwaja Rahmatullah himself would treat him with outmost respect. He was known for his Riyazaats and Tazki-E-Nafs (supression and control over worldly desires). He would mentain minimum contact with outside world and spend most of his time in Zikr and Ibadat. He would seldom talk and always remain silent, mentaining that silence is the best way to keep distance from all evils. He had Khwaja Rahmatullah's special blessings and would always be seen in a state of Rememberance of Allah because of which he was held in very high esteem by the society.

Hazrat Mohammed Qutub (Rahmatullah Alaih):

Hazrat Muhammed Qutub is one among the Khalifas of Khwaja Rahmatullah, who was also very close to Hazrat Mohammed Sarwar. His only indulgence in life was Zikr-E-Haq (Rememberance of Allah) with no connection to the materialistic world. He attained vilayat through the blessings of Khwaja Rahmatullah.

Hazrat Inayatullah (Rahmatullah Alaih):

What is worth mentioning about Hazrat Inayatullah is that he spent his entire life in the service of his Peer Hazrat Khwaja Rahmatullah. There was not a single moment when he would distract himself from his peer's service, something that he was rewarded for with invaluable spiritual blessings from Khwaja Rahmatullah. It is said that he would always remain in a lost state (Wajdani Kaifiyat) but would perform his Salats and attend to his his Peer's service with all attention. With Khwaja Rahmatullah's Blessings he reached great heights in the fields of Ma'arifat and Raah-E-Sulook. He expired on Eid-Ul-Fitr i.e. on the 1st day of
Shawwal.

Hazrat Syed Ali Mohammed (Rahmatullah Alaih):

Popularly known as Dastagir, he penned down the book Unfaas Rifaaiya where he had chronicled the life of Khwaja Rahmatullah in detail.

Hazrat Syed Shah Mohammed Nizamuddin (Rahmatullah Alaih):

Among the great personalities who were blessed by Khwaja Rahmatullah during his stay at Kurnool the name of Hazrat Syed Shah Mohammed Nizamuddin (RA) stands out. He had the luxury of being in Khwaja Rahmatullah's company for long hours and witness his day to day activities so much so that he penned down a beautifully compiled collection of events and happenings of Khwaja Rahmatullah's life which got published under the name "Aqidatut Taalibeen" in Khwaja Rahmatullah's lifetime itself (14 years before Khwaja Rahmatullah's Visaal). Hazrat Nizamuddin expired and was laid to rest in Rahmatabad.

Hazrat Syed Abdul Kareem (Rahmatullah Alaih):

Hazrat Syed abdul Kareem is considered as one of the most able and favourite disciples of Hazrat Khwaja Rahmatullah. He was a haji and thus referred to as Haji-Ul-Harmain. He was also counted among the Mashaiks of Haram and Kaabatullah.

Murshideen:

Hazrat Syed Shah Alvi Buroom (Rahmatullah Alaih), (Bijapur - Karnataka)

Hazrat Syed Ashraf Makki Azlati (Rahmatullah Alaih), (Makkah Muazzamah - Saudi Arabia)

Hazrat Haji Syed Khwaja Rahmatullah (RA) Nayabe Rasool had undertaken Baith from the following four traditions (Silsila):

Silsila-E-Quadriya ,Silsila-E-Chishtiya, Silsila-E-Nakshbandiya and Silsila-E-Rifaaiya.

Hazrat Khwaja Rahmatullah had also acquired Roohani Khilafat (also called Faizane Batin) from Khwaja-E-Dakan Khwaja-E-Khwajgan Hazrat Khwaja Banda Nawaz Gesu Daraz (Rahmatullah Alaih), (Gulbarga - Karnataka).

Peer-O-Murshid Hazrat Syed Shah Alvi Buroom (Rahmatullah Alaih):

Hz Syed Shah Alvi Buroom - BijapurKhwaja Nayabe Rasool always used to immerse himself in the rememberance of Almighty Allah. He would remain awake the whole night offering prayers and fast during the day time. Every day he would perform numerous Zikrs, Tasbeehs, offer Nawafils and yet his love and attachment with Almighty Allah was only growing by the day, which eventually brought him to the doorsteps of Hazrat Alvi Buroom (RA).

One look at Khwja Rahmatullah was all that Hazrat Alvi Buroom needed to know that here was someone who was destined for greatness, who through his compassion and benevolence would become a source of joy and relief to the world. A peer like Hazrat Alvi Buroom (RA) was what Khwaja Nayabe Rasool had been looking for all this while and once he found himself in front of him Khwaja Nayabe Rasool immediately expressed his desire to become his disciple.

Despite this Hazrat Alvi Buroom decided to test Khwaja Rahmatullah who in turn was more than happy to undergo the trials. He felt Baith from such a renowned peer is worth the wait of a lifetime and went through the trials without any complaints. Hazrat Alvi Buroom ordered Khwaja Rahmatullah to carry out certain Aamals and directed him to perform certain Zikrs both of which Khwaja Rahmatullah performed with great obedience. From Namaze Fajr till the fall of night Khwaja Rahmatullah used to remain in his peer's service. He would sleep for some time and then again submerge himself into Almighty Allah's worship starting with Namaze Tahajjud, Fajr , Nawafils and various Zikrs.

When Hazrat Alvi Buroom (RA) felt that all the conditions for Baith have been met he called Khwaja Rahmatullah and conveyed to him his decision to grant him Khilafat under all four traditions viz. Quadriya, Chishtiya, Nakshbandiya and Rifaaiya.

Apart gfrom Hazrat Alvi Buroom (RA), Khwaja Rahmatullah Nayabe Rasool had also undertaken Baith from Hazrat Syed Shah Ali Raza Gujrati (Rahmatullah Alaih) under Silsila-E-Quadriya.

It is also believed that Hazrat Khwaja Rahmatullah had also visited Melapur, where he met the great sufi of the time Hazrat Syed Ahmed Rifaai (Rahmatullah Alaih) and expressed his desire to become his disciple, in reply of which Hazrat Syed Ahmed Rifaai (RA) had said that Hazrat Syed Ashraf Makki (RA) has been preordained with the task of his (Khwaja Rahmatullah's) spiritual well being and therefore he should first approach him and then he (Hazrat Syed Ahmed Rifaai RA) will definitely offer him whatever he has.

Peer-O-Murshid Hazrat Syed Ashraf Makki Azlati (Rahmatullah Alaih):

After copmleteing Hajj and Ziyarat, upon the Instructins of Nabi-E-Kareem (SAWS) Khwaja Nayabe Rasool set out in the search of Hazrat Ashraf Makki (RA) and at last found him on Koh-E-Abu Qubais. At that time Hazrat Ashraf Makki was observing Muraqiba and would only take breaks for offering Namaz. Khwaja Rahmatullah came to know that this practice was going on for quite some time. Bacause of Hazrat Ashraf Makki (RA) there was a distinct feel of spirituality and enlightment on Jabl-E-Abu Qubais.

Jabl Abu QubaisKhwaja Rahmatullah presented himself before Hazrat Ashraf Makki (RA) who instantly identified him with his name and said that he was waiting for him since the day he got to know about his impending arrival from none other than Rasool-E-Pak (SAWS). Hazrat Ashraf Makki (RA) and Khwaja Rahmatullah both then proceeded to offer Dogana (a special two rakat nafl namaz). Thereafter Hazrat Ashraf Makki (RA) opened the doors of his vast Islamic knowledge to Khwaja Rahmatullah and let him learn the naunces of such Ulooms (subjects) as Shariyah, Tariqah, Ma'arifat and many more. Hazrat Khwaja Rahmatullah would spend days, weeks and even months perfecting and fine tuning his knowledge of various Zahiri and Batini Uloons under the able guidance of Hazrat Ashraf Makki (RA).

In this manner Hazrat Ashraf Makki (RA) passed on every single drop of knowledge that he has accumulated during his lifetime to his favourite disciple Hazrat Haji Syed Khwaja Rahmatullah (RA) Nayabe Rasool. After acquiring relevent knowledge on various Islamic subjects from Hazrat Syed Ashraf Makki (RA), Khwaja Rahmataullah performed Umrah at Makkah Shareef and set out for his return to his home land. His stay with Hazrat Ashraf Makki (RA) had completely transformed and elevated Khwaja Rahmatullah's spirituality to the highest level which confirmed Khwaja Rahmatullah's accession to the high pedestal of Vilayat.

After returning from Makkah Shareef Khwaja Rahmatullah again approached Hazrat Syed Ahmed Rifaai (RA), who welcomed him with open arms and shared his vast knowledge on Islamic Ulooms with him.

Urs Hazrat Haji Syed Khwaja Rahmatullah (Rhamatullah Alaih) Nayabe Rasool:

The yearly Sandal and Urs of Hazrat Khwaja Rahmatullah is celeberated on the 25th, 26th and the 27th day of the Islamic month of Rabbi Ul Awwal. On 25th of Rabbi Ul Awwal after Namaze Asr the yearly Khatm-O-Quran is performed at the grand mosque (Madina Masjid) inside the dargah premises and an elaborate Fateha Khani preceeded by Milad and followed by Salat-O-Salam is performed in front of the female prayer hall (Zanana Ibadatkhana). The Khatm-O-Quran and Fateha ceremonies are presided over by the Pesh Imam of the mosque and the Sajjada Nasheen of the dargah respectively.

On the same day after the stroke of midnight the Sandal of Hz Khwaja Nayabe Rasool is celeberated. Before the sandal procession is taken out all the Khadims gather at the house of the Sajjada Nasheen where the sandal paste to be applied to the Mazar of Khwaja Rahmatullah is prepared with outmost care and respect. Prior to mixing the Sandal, the Sajjada Nasheen of the Dargah takes a ritual bath (Ghusl) from where he proceeds to complete the Sandal preperations. The Sandal Procession is then taken out from the house of the Sajjada Nasheen with much fanfare and brought to the tomb of Hazrat Haji Syed Khwaja Rahmatullah (RA) Nayabe Rasool. During the actual Sandal application ceremony only a select few people have access to the entire process namely the secretary of the board office, the khadims, family members of the Sajjada Nasheen, members of the dargah management board, representatives of the District Judge and other VIPs. After the ceremony is completed the applied Sandal is distributed to the general public waiting outside the tomb.

The next day i.e. on 26th Rabbi Ul Awwal Jashn-E-Charagan (ceremony of lamps) of Khwaja Nayabe rasool is celeberated. The Bawli (open well) inside the dargah premises and other parts of the dargah are decorated with earthen lamps that enhances the beauty of the already imposing dome. Devotees gather in and around the bawli and decorate it with different lighting patterns made out of lamps, candles etc. The dargah management palces lamps along the boundary of the Bawli that beautifully outlines the contours of the well. After Namaze Maghrib a special Salami is offered at the mazar of Khwaja Nayabe Rasool.

The Tahlil function (called Ziyarat at other places) is celeberated on the 27th of Rabbi Ul Awwal. Before the start of the function the wooden Tasbeeh (beeds) used by Khwaja Rahmatullah when he used to sit in Halqa along with his disciples, is displayed to the devotees. Milad and Fateha Khani are followed by a brief Sadal Application ceremony where the general public are allowed to apply sandal to the mazar of Khwaja Nayabe Rasool. This brings to an end the three day Sandal and Urs celeberations of Hazrat Haji Syed Khwaja Rahmatullah (RA) Nayabe Rasool.

Urs Hazrat Syeda Maa Habebunnisa (Rahmatullah Alaiha):

The yearly Sandal and Urs of Ammajan is celeberated on the 7th, 8th and 9th day of the Islamic month of Rabbi Ul Awwal. On 7th of Rabbi Ul Awwal after Namaze Asr the yearly Khatm-O-Quran is performed at the grand mosque (Madina Masjid) inside the dargah premises and an elaborate Fateha Khani preceeded by Milad and followed by Salat-O-Salam is performed in front of the female prayer hall (Zanana Ibadatkhana). The Khatm-O-Quran and Fateha ceremonies are presided over by the Pesh Imam of the mosque and the Sajjada Nasheen of the dargah respectively.

On the same day after the stroke of midnight the Sandal of Hz Syeda Habeebunnisa is celeberated. Before the sandal procession is taken out all the Khadims gather at the house of the Sajjada Nasheen where the sandal paste to be applied to the Mazar of Ammajan is prepared with outmost care and respect.

The next day i.e. on 8th Rabbi Ul Awwal Jashn-E-Charagan (ceremony of lamps) of Ammajan is celeberated. After Namaze Maghrib a special Salami is offered at the dargah of Ammajan.

The Tahlil function (called Ziyarat at other places) is celeberated on the 9th of Rabbi Ul Awwal. Milad and Fateha Khani are followed by a brief Sadal Application ceremony where the general public are allowed to apply sandal to the mazar of Khwaja Nayabe Rasool (men are not allowed to touch the Mazar-E-Aqdas of Hz Syeda Maa Habeeba). This brings to an end the three day Sandal and Urs celeberations of Hazrat Syeda Maa Habeebunnisa (RA) urf Ammajan.

Sandal Maali:

The Sandal Maali of Hazrat Syeda Maa Habeebunnisa (Rahmatullah Alaiha) is celeberated on the 2nd or 3rd day of the Islamic month of Rabbi Ul Awwal. It also happens to be the only time of the year when the female devotees are allowed to enter the inner part of the dome (wherein lies the mazars of Khwaja Rahmatullah and Maa Habeeba). The event being the first among the chain of ritualistic events that are performed during the month in commemoration of the yearly Sandal and Urs celeberations of Hz Khjwaja Nayabe Rasool and Ammajan. A lot of people travel to Rahmatabad to attend this event.

What Is Sandal Maali ?

Sandal Maali is a ritual (rasm) that is generally performed a few days before the actual Sandal is celeberated. In this ritual the mazars are sprinkled and cleaned with rose water and are relaid and reshaped with a paste comprising of sandalwood powder, mud prepared from purified soil, aame haldi , itr (perfumes without any alcohol content) and other ingredients. The ritual is performed by the female members of the family of the Sajjada Nasheen on the mazar of Ammajan while the mazar of Khwaja Nayabe Rasool is tended by the male Khadims. The male devotees are allowed to apply sandal wood paste on the mazar of Khwaja Rahmatullah while the female devotees queue up to apply the same to the mazar of Syeda Maa Habeebunnisa. Since its the only time of the year when women are allowed entry inside the mazars there is an unprecedented rush of female devotees for this event. The ritual that starts after the daily Salam (read after Namaz-E-Isha) continues till late in the night.

Jhela:

Jhela - RahmatabadThe Jhela Mubarak of Hazrat Haji Syed Khwaja Rahmatullah (RA) Nayabe Rasool is celeberated on the 22nd day of the Islamic month of Rabbi Ul Awwal every year. It is one of the important events that takes place before the sandal of Khwaja Rahmatullah. In this practice the golden moon atop the Gumbaz (dome) of Khwaja Nayabe Rasool is decorated with Floral decorations. The first Jhela to be placed atop the golden moon is prepared and contributed by the Dargah Management and the Sajjada Nasheen while the subsequent jhelas are offered by the devotees. Different floral contributions by the devotees are tied to the bigger Jhelas which are then placed one by one along the golden moon which makes it a sight to behold.

Kasmur:

Hz Syed Kaleshah Mastan Vali - KasmurKasmur is famous for the dargah of the great saint Hazrat Syed Karimullah Shah Quadri (Rahmatullah Alaih) popularly known as Kale Shah Peer Mastan Wali Baba to his countless devotees. The shrine is located at a distance of 25 km from Nellore (80 km from Rahmatabad) along the Chennai Highway. Because of its proximity to Tamil Nadu a large number of people visiting this dargah are from Tamil Nadu, though the shrine is no less popular in Andhra Pradesh. The shrine like the shrine at Rahmatabad is known for its extraordinary healing powers from physical as well as spiritual ailments. The yearly Sandal at Kasmur is perfomed on 25th Rabbiul Awwal, the same day as the sandal of Rahmatabad is performed, the only differrence being that the sandal at Rahmatabad is celeberated after midnight while that of Kasmur is celeberated just before the dawn prayers.

Hazrat Syed Karimullah Shah Quadri is believed to be the Peer Bhai (Disciples of the same Master) of Hazrat Haji Syed Khwaja Rahmatullah Nayabe Rasool. Most of the pilgrims who visit Rahmatabad make it a point to visit Kasmur and vice versa. Though not much is available about his life history in the form of written literature it is believed that Hz Karimullah Shah Quadri is a Zinda Wali. It is said that his Visal (expiry) was a Karamat in itself in that he ordered the earth to make place for him and let himself into it and then again ordered the earth to cover him up which did as ordered. The place where his mazar stands today is exactly the spot where he buried himself alive.

Barah Shaheed:

Bara Shaheed Dargah, Nellore DtBara Shaheed Dargah, Nellore DtThe Barah Shaheed Dargah (the twelve martyrs) located at the heart of Nellore town may well be considered as the most popular dargah of Andhra Pradesh, both inside and outside of it. The yearly sandal celeberated on the 10th, 11th and 12th of Muharram attracts such unprecedented crowds that it needs to be seen to be believed. The Sandal celeberations are popularly known as Rottela Panduga (Rotiyon Ki Eid or Festival Of Breads) in the local language. Many people believe and quite rightly that wishes made at the dargah come true and those people whose prayers have been answered visit the dargah evrey year for the Sandal and offer Rotis (bread) in the adjacent pond which in turn are accepted by those people who have come to the dargah with wishes in their hearts. There are different kind of Rotis viz. Rozi Ki Roti (the bread for employment), Rizq Ki Roti (the bread for food), Shadi Ki Roti (the bread for marriage), Sehat Ki Roti (the bread for good health) and many more depending on the type of wish that one has. Each type of bread corresponds to what one wishes for in life, for example if you wish for good health in life you should go to the Dargah and make a wish for the same and when your wish is fullfilled you should offer a Roti at the pond at the time of Sandal which in turn will be accepted by someone else who also wishes for good health in life and once his wish is fullfilled he should come and offer rotis in a simillar manner. Same thing applies to the other Rotis also. Such is the popularity of this shrine that lakhs and lakhs of people from across India and even foreign countries visit the dargah at the time of the Sandal.

Venadu:

Hz Dawood Shah Vali - Venadu, Nellore DtThe village Venadu lies in the interiors of Sulurupeta near Sri Hari Kota (India's Space Launching Station) in Nellore District. The village is famous for the Dargah of Hazrat Dawood Shah Wali (Rahmatullah Alaih). What's so unique about this Dargah is the length of the Mazar of the aforesaid Buzurg. The mazar is a whopping 144 feet in length to be precise. Since the mazar is located in the interiors and was not cemented it used to wither away due to strong winds but would again regain its shape once the winds subsided. Recently the mazar was converted into a cemented one by none other than the Mozart Of Madras Mr A. R. Rahman who is a frequent visitor at the dargah.

Hz Syed Ahmed Shah Baba - RahmatabadNot much is known about Hazrat Syed Ahmed Shah Quadri (RA) whose shrine is located in the nearby village called Bada Gaun (at a walkable distance from Rahmatabad) except that he was also among the early Auliyas who had graced Rahmatabad before Khwaja Rahmtullah did. Popular belief has it that when Khwaja Rahmatullah arrived in Rahmatabad Hazrat Ahmed Shah Quadri had already expired by then, and when Khwaja Rahmatullah used to pass by his grave he would always hear Quranic recitations emanating from the grave of Hazrat Ahmed Shah Quadri (RA) and it was upon Khwaja Rahmatullah's insistence that those recitations subsided later. A must visit place for anyone going to Rahmatabad. The Sandal of Hazrat Ahmed Shah Quadri RA is celeberated on the 17th day of the Islamic month of Zil Qaidah.

Hazrat Syed Mustafa Shah Quadri (Rahmatullah Alaih):

Hz Syed Mustafa Shah Vali - RahmatabadThe Dargah of Hazrat Syed Mustafa Shah Quadri (RA) is also located in Bada Gaun. Known as a Jalali Buzurg his Dargah is also quite popular among the pilgrims visiting Rahmatabad. The sandal of Hazrat Mustafa shah Quadri (RA) is celeberated on the 26th of the Isamic month of Shawwal Ul Mukarram.

Zaibunnisa Ammajan (Rahmatullah Alaiha):

Hza Zaibunnissa Ammajaan - RahmatabadThe Dargah of Zabunnisa Ammajan (RA) is the last of mazars in Bada Gaun. The dargah is at a stone's throw away from the dargah of Hazrat Syed Ahmed Shah Quadri (RA). The sandal of Zaibunnisa ammajan is celeberated on the 10th of Muharram.

Important Dargahs At Rahmatabad:

Hazrat Syed Faqruddin Shah Wali (Rahmatullah Alaih):

Hz Syed Faqruddin Shah Vali, RahmatabadRahmatabad is the resting place of many a saints. It is widely believed that apart from the grand dome of Hazrat Khwaja Rahmatullah (RA) Nayabe Rasool that proudly adornes the centre of Rahmatabad, there are many Auliya Allah who have been laid to rest in the adjacent graveyard that includes disciples of Khwaja Rahmatullah and those Auliya Allah who graced this pious land before or after Khwaja Rahmatullah decided to make this village his final destination. One such Auliya Allah of great importance is Hazrat Syed Faqruddin Shah Wali (RA). If there is one shrine in Rahmatabad that is as often visited and adored by pilgrims as the shrine of Khwaja Rahmatullah himself then it has to be the Mazar of Baba Faqruddin, who is believed to be one among the few Sufis who blessed this place before Khwaja Rahmatullah's arrival. The importance of this Dargah can be gauged by the fact that a visit to Rahmatabad is considered incomplete (from a pilgrim's point of view) till you visit the Dargah of Baba Faqruddin. You can aptly say that if Khwaja Rahmatullah is the spiritual treasure that one is seeking then Baba Faqruddin is the doorway to it, without passing through which one cannot obtain the real treasure. Though resting in a modest enclosure of four limestone walls his importance as an Islamic great cannot be undermined. e Believed to have expired at an early age of 18 years, the Sandal of Hazrat Syed Faqruddin Shah Wali RA is celeberated on the 18th day of the Islamic month of Jamadis Saani. The Sandal is celeberated with much fanfare and is considered as the most important of sandals in Rahmatabad after the Sandals Of Khwaja Rahmatullah and Ammajan.

Hazrat Mirza Shujat Baig (Rahmatullah Alaih):

Mirza Baba - RahmatabadHazrat Mirza Shujat Baig (RA) is believed to be the adopted son of Hazrat Syed Khwaja Rahmatullah (RA) Nayabe Rasool. His shrine is located at the backside (southwards) of Khwaja Rahmatullah's dome. A very interesting tale about Hz Mirza Baig is that when as a child he used to cry out of hunger, Khwaja Rahmatullah would make him suck his thumb which would thus become a source of milk to Hz Mirza Baig and pacify his hunger. Hz Mirza Baig, along with Ammajan is also credited with the construction of the grand dome that stands atop Khwaja Nayabe Rasool's mazar. His yearly sandal is celeberated on the 11th day of the Islamic month of Ramzan.

Hazrat Abubakr Mastan Baba (Rahmatullah Alaih):

Mastan Baba - RahmatabadHazrat Abubakr Mastan Baba's Real identity is a mystery though there's no denying the fact that he is an Auliya of special importance. Many people consider him to be of the Mouzub type (those who have immersed themselves so much into Almighty Allah's love that they become disillusioned and disconncted from the rest of the world). To put it simply, Mastan Baba's Zahir(outer being) was quite different from his Batin (inner being). Such was his attachment to Almighty Allah that when in Zikr all his body parts would get seperated from each other as if they were cut apart from the body. The dargah is famous for its spiritual healing prowesses especially to those who are victims of black magic and sorcery. Hazrat Abubakr Mastan Baba's sandal is celeberated on the 21st of Muharram, the only Sandal celeberations in Rahmatabad where the Foqra of the Rifaai Tradition (followers of which strongly believe that nothing can harm you or effect you unless untill the Almighty Allah wishes it so, the Bani or fountain head of this tradition being Hazrat Syed Ahmed Kabir Rahmatullah Alaih who is the descendant of the great Auliya Hazrat Shaikh Abdul Qadir Geelani Rahmatullah Alaih) display their Zarb skills.

Hazrat Mirza Mohammed Hussain Baig Urf Ustad Baba (Rahmatullah Alaih):

Ustad Baba - RahmatabadUstad Baba came to Rahmatabad more than forty years ago and settled down in Rahmatabad dedicating his entire life to the teachings of Hazrat Syed Khwaja Rahmatullah (RA) Nayabe Rasool. He used to teach Quran to little children and hence the name Ustad Baba. If Khwaja Rahmatullah is called Nayabe Rasool then Ustad Baba can aptly be called as Ata-E-Nayabe Rasool simply because it was through the blesings of Khwaja Rahmatullah that Ustad Baba reached sainthood (The phenomenon being called as Nisbat-E-Owaisi in Urdu). It is widely believed that prayers seldom go unanswered at the mazar of Ustad Baba. Ths Sandal of Ustad Baba is celeberated on 13th of Ramzan every year, in commemoration of which a Mushaira and a Qawwali (Mehfile Sama) are organised.

Hazrat Syed Ashraf Baba (Rahmatullah Alaih):

Syed Ashraf Baba - RahmatabadBelieved to be the disciple of Hazrat Syed Khwaja Rahmatullah (RA) Nayabe Rasool, his sandal is celeberated on the 21st of Rajjabul Murajjab.
